Roller Derby Champs

Jul 24, 2011

Ever been to a Roller Derby? Highly advised you check it out! We had so much fun at the Fair Park Coliseum last night for the Assassination City 2011 Championship Bout. Getting floor access tickets, we could roam around the game and meet all the players and hard core fans.Roller Derby 1

Since we were virgin derby fans, we had to learn all the rules to keep up with the match.Roller Derby 2

I don’t know how these girls are not covered in bruises head to toe… Check out some great pics from Dallas Observer of this past season.

Roller Derby 3

Each player has a number and name of choice, so their friends and family can keep track of them during the jam. Most of the names have a sexy overtone, but none compare to this dirty duo! Gotta love the silver hair supporters…

Dirty Names

Even Hank the announcer of the event has a great name! What would your Roller Derby name be? Shout out to you Mr. Pankey…

Hank E. Panky

Floor seats gives access to meet all the players and staff, also highly advised! Shout out to Phoenix Hellfyre who is on the Bombshell Brigade team not playing last night. Great to meet her and hopefully will see Sleepy Dan as a Roller Derby sponsor in the future… Her trading card was available for the first time last night, so she was helping to promote with the fans! Check out all the Assassination City Teams

Phoenix Hellfyre

Got to meet some players from the competing teams too. Everyone is so nice when you talk, but give brutal hits during the game…

Special Ops

These are some bad ass girls!

Rocker

I thought it was hilarious what the fans brought to the event too! Pabst Blue Ribbon is the official beer sponsor of the event, so fans sitting at the track edge create empty towers to display the drinking power of their section! During the match, the girls who get knocked down or bumped off the track try to crash into these towers. Great collapse then the fans drink more and rebuild… Where else can you see that kinda fan participation!!!

Beer Tower

What a great night, we were not expecting that much fun. Check out Assassination City for the upcoming season in November. Wanna try out to be a roller derby girl? Check out their recruiting to be a 2012 rookie!

H TOWN SNEAKER SUMMIT

Aug 4, 2011

Sneaker Summit went down July 31st and Texas represented in force! Everyone was expecting more attendance than Kixpo, and I heard H Town beat out DFW with closer to 10k… But unlike Kixpo, there were dozens of big name sponsors including Adidas, Crooks & Castles, Two In The Shirt, Nice Kicks.com and others that hosted pre parties and after parties at random spots. Heard they were all bad ass! H Town was definitely the place to be this past weekend. Hope you were able to make it out.

HT 01

Sleepy Dan did not have a table but will definitely be contributing next time. Hope the organizers can work out some of the kinks for next year. Heard there was a big hassle for the vendors to set up, the event opened 45 minutes late creating a heated anxious crowd, and the VIP tickets we purchased were pretty much the same as the regular tickets…

HT 02

Really surprised that the event was not held on the stadium floor! The middle of the Toyota Center was dark and closed off, it felt like the heart of the event was being unused. But the organization of the event was great with one side having sneaker fanatics and the opposing side showing the branded clothing. Not sure which was the more popular attraction to the event, but nothing goes better with a new pair of kicks than a new t shirt and snapback!

HT 03

Adidas was the major contributing sponsor, having some great promotions like purchase a pair of kicks and get free tickets to the event. They made this plaster cast display for fans to sign. By the end of the event, it turns into Where’s Walso of my signature from a couple hours ago… What would you write?

HT 04

There were some great promotions going on during the event. Like this live radio broadcast and interview from SneakerTube.tv that was going on throughout the entire event. Models for TITS brand were signing merch and posing for pics. There were lots of raffles going on during the event too. Love going to events that have so much going on other than the main attraction. The small details are what fans really remember!

HT 05

Met this guy Dirty & Nasty while meeting with Sucker Punch clothing. We first spotted his giant gold dookie chain while in line before the event opened. Had to say hello when I realized it was a knitted chain! There are always some great fans to meet when attending large events like this. Never let the moment pass when you could have said hello, it could turn out to be a valued friend down the road…

TOP OF THE WORLD

Aug 28, 2011

Sleepy Dan went on a ride to the top of the world this week! Pike’s Peak in Colorado Springs, CO is over 14,110 feet, making it an alpine zone. The air is thin and the view is breathtaking, so I was really dizzy the whole time up there…

Pikes Peak 01

Little bit of snow on the ground, it snows year round up there… We were severely under dressed and freezing, but really happy to meet some new Sleepy Dan fans.

Pikes Peak 02

The trip up the mountain takes a couple hours and is insanely scary, the whole drive you are looking over the edge and at risk of falling off.

Pikes Peak 03

Even more crazy were all the guard rails had huge dents! This one was totally bent over and broken, like someone drove over the edge!

Pikes Peak 04

We stopped and made friends with Ranger Bob, he helped give some driving instructions for the trip up the mountain and history of the park.

Pikes Peak 05

Went mining for gold, but there are no nuggets in dem darn hills…

Pikes Peak 06

Spent tons of time sketching, but fun is just as important on a design vacation!

Sleepy Saturday Market

Sep 3, 2011

Today Sleepy Dan traveled to the Bishop Arts District in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas, for the Bishop Arts Saturday Market. This is still the first year for the market event, it’s been on summer hiatus for several months, but this was the first day of the “Fall” season for them. But my sunburn and heat stroke can attest, September 3rd feels remarkably like all of August…

Bishop 01

Had so much fun meeting new fans, but I should have brought a tent! Still selling the Back 2 Old School grab bags, so get one while they last…

Bishop 02

Great to meet and potentially help out new emerging artists in the area with their work. New fans still loving the custom apparel boxes!

Bishop 03

Setting up shop at other Dallas area Saturday markets from now till Christmas, so check out the Facebook page to see where Sleepy Dan will be next!

INVASION TX

Sep 4, 2011

Saturday afternoon Sleepy Dan went to The Invasion car show hosted by THEM Car Club which is based in the Dallas area. This car show is easily my all time favorite… It’s been held every Labor Day Weekend for the past 5 years and it gets better every year! Rat Rods, Deuce Coupes, Custom Chops, and the most elegant style coming out of Texas lining the streets of Deep Ellum.

DE Invasion 01

This matte black 57 Chevy is built like the Harrison Ford rod from American Graffiti. My favorite classic muscle car classic movie.

DE Invasion 02

The featured car of the show has to be 32 Ford owned by Brian Townsend. Love the checkered fire wall… Serious attention to detail!

DE Invasion 03

Showing off original sun roofs with all the original wood braces!

DE Invasion 05

Bad ass custom choppin!

DE Invasion 06

If you were not there, make sure you keep it on your calendar for next year…

Great day for TEXAS TEEZILLA promotions… Sleepy Dan and Lies And Filth went live with Jedi from Deep Ellum On Air! VINYL THOUGHTS

Sep 15, 2011

Tonight is the Vinyl Thoughts event in Deep Ellum! There will be a couple dozen artists featured in the show, each making several characters, including Sleepy Dan. I created two 9 inch pillow fighting characters and I will show pics of them this weekend. This is the first time I’ve painted on a 3D surface and I’m addicted for life! Tonight will be so much fun, there will be sponsor give aways, raffles for prizes, free drinks, music, and the vinyls are an affordable price, so you have the ability to bring some home! If you buy one of the Sleepy Dan characters you get a Sleepy Dan goodie bag too!

Vinyl Thoughts 01

I volunteered to design and print tees for the first year of the show! Very limited run of 60 shirts… Just finished printing them last night with friends I invited over to teach them how to screen print. Always fun to have friends over for a printing! The shirts will be on sale at the event for only $10, so please come and show your support for the Dallas custom vinyl art culture. See you there!
